The Aromanians (Cincars / Armãnj) are an indigenous Romance-speaking Balkan people whose roots trace back to the Romanization of the native populations along the strategic military and trade route Via Egnatia.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, their merchants, scholars, and philanthropists played a foundational role in building modern civil society, banking, education, and architecture in Belgrade, Vienna, Budapest, Trieste, and across the Balkans.
